John Sheppard [userpic]

John is sitting in the kitchen, nursing a cup of coffee. He's spent a while watching the twins sleep. He knows Gilly would be ecstatic if he woke her up for snuggling, but he can't quite bring himself to do it. So instead he made coffee and has hidden out.

He feels weird, here. There's no echo of ocean, and everything is just...wrong.

"Mmmmmmnoooo. I don't think I can."

"I think you can."

"Maybe if I'd seen you recently."

"Mmm." She pushes the door open.

He tugs her straight over to the bed and stretchs out.

She kicks her shoes off and shimmies out of her clothes.

John does not bother being undressed. If he stays dressed, that is two whole minutes he can stay with his wife in the morning.

She goes and sits on top of him. "Okay. So talk."

"I don't know." He folds one arm behind his head, the other resting on her leg lightly. "I just...hate being away all the time."

"I know." She covers the hand on her thigh with her own. "Nobody else likes it either. Nami was asking when you and Elizabeth are going to be visiting. Did you see her today?"

"Yeah. I spent some time with all of them when I got here. Got Pepik to put pants on. Proud of me?" He smirks a bit.

"I have made it abundantly clear to Pepik that he does not leave his bedroom without at least some boxers on."

"I had him not only in pants. But a shirt."

"He's going to have to get used to a school uniform in September..."

"Deal with that in September. How're my babies doing? I checked on them, but I didn't want to wake them up."

"Gilly doesn't like being separated from you at all, but we're dealing. Robert keeps whining for Elizabeth."

"...I think I've got something to calm them down. I'll bring it next time I can get back."

"...all right. What is it?"

"Us. In a way. In the meantime, I'll leave my jacket for Gilly."

"...in a way?" she pokes at him.

He bats at her hand. "Let me see if I can get it before you pester me, woman."

"No, I want to know now."

"Jesus. Fine. I'm thinking, if Elizabeth and I periodically send you something of ours for them. Maybe give you a recording of our voices. It might get them to relax."

"Well, I don't see why you couldn't have just said that." She pinches his nose.

"...Because I know that getting Gilly to calm down without me actually being here is going to mean singing." >_>
